origami

Last night, I was up until 4am writing a paper for my class.  I got about 3 hours of sleep, and I was gonna take a nap right after the class.

But no. Josh (http://www.youtube.com/JugginsJosh) had to post a video about origami, and my Asian blood told me to show him how real origami is supposed to be done.  So I made a video response.

After I made the video, I realized how much I enjoy origami.  It’s totally relaxing, and the idea of turning something 2D into 3D is quite fascinating.  I used to spend hours and hours making random things with color paper when I was little.

For one of my aunts’ weddings, I made her an origami bouquet.  For my uncle’s wedding, I think I gave him a picture frame that had traditional Korean origami people.

I wish I had more time to do origami now.  Maybe I’ll make a video tutorial on an origami piece?  What do you think?

Happy Birthday Michael Jackson!

Today, August 29th, is Michael Jackson’s 51th birthday.

I could list all his contributions to the pop culture, but I’m just going to cut to the chase and share with you a MJ memory of mine.

My sophomore year in high school, the cast of “Meet Me in St. Louis,” our Fall Musical, decided to go trick-or-treating.  Most of my friends just went with costumes they had in their “Halloween boxes,” but I decided to go a few steps further.

I got a European prince/soldier outfit from a local costume store, Mar Rays, along with a mid-length black wig.  I wore white shoes, a white fedora, one glove on my right hand, a gigantic pair of aviators,  and, finally, a “under construction” sign covering my nose.

Yes, I was Michael Jackson.

While we were trick-or-treating, I’d ask fellow trick-or-treaters, “Hey~ what’s your name? I’m Michael, but you can call me Mikey. Did you get a lot of candies?” And yes, the fellow trick-or-treaters were about 10 years younger than me.

Some parents were slightly freaked out, but most were like, “Oh, Michael! Don’t take my son/daughter away from me! Here. I’ll give you some candies!”

I got a pillow-case full of candies that day, and more than half of them came from kids’ parents.  The best trick-or-treat session ever.

So, today, I’d like to thank Mr. Michael Jackson for the candies that I ate in 2004~2005; without you, I couldn’t have afforded the insane amount of sugary goodness that I consumed, my sophomore year in high school.
